Everybody seems to rave about MEATliquor/MEATmarket, and it’s been on my do list for some time, so I thought i’d check it out and see what all the fuss is about. Let me start by telling you a little about MEATmarket; MEATmarket is the next chaper in the Scott Collins and Yianni Papoutsis MEAT empire, this time they opted for the fast food root, now I’m all for this as if you want to pick up quick burger you have to go to Maccy D’s or Burger King, but Scott and Yianni didn’t read the script, they want to offer you a quality burger in quick sharp time, Anyway, on to my review.
I was up for a pre gig munch with my mate @DanStockley and we were in a rush, so I opted for the newest fast food restaurant on the block, MEATmarket. I’ve heard about the legendary queues at MEATliquor and I was just hoping for a nice easy ride at MEATmarket; our luck was in with no queue at all!
MEATmarket is situated upstairs of Jubilee Market, we found it with no trouble as the neon MEATmarket sign lured me in.
Once you hit the top of the stairs you’re welcomed by the smell of feel good comfort food, Ummm. I scanned the menu, after about 5 minutes of going back and fourth on the menu I finally decided to go with ‘The Dead Hippie’ burger, Chilli Cheese Fries and the Jalapeno Poppers and when it came out I was like “SHIT” that’s a mountain of food.
So, let’s get down to business, first up the burger, now I have read reviews saying “oh the burger is way too greasy” blah blah “it’s a heart attack in a bun” blah blah, for me this is what Yianni & Scott wanted to achieve, full on greasy comfort food which has been shipped all the way from the States! Anyway, I digress, my first bite was one I’ll never forget, it’s was a explosion of flavor, the onion, the pickle, the sauce, then the show stopper, the patty, seasoned just right with nice pinky tinge in the middle, heaven!
As I was just coming out of my burger coma, I decided to tuck in to my sides, the chilli cheese fries is the biggest value for money on the menu @ £4.50 for a tub of fires, mixed in with tasty chilli all topped off with stringy cheese, onion & French’s mustard, really really tasty. The poppers were also good, crunchy on the outside nice a gooey on the inside, with a nice little heat kick, a fine wingman for any burger.
After I had eaten this lot, I sat back with a grin on my face as if i had just won a Olympic gold medal for the most amount of food consumed in half hour, a truly glutinous experience. So if you in need of any comfort food, or just wanting a decent burger on the run, head down to MEATmarket, a truly filthy experience.
